Senior SQL Database Administrator
12-month contract with extensions
100% Remote

Position Overview:
The SQL Database Administrator will assist with the build out new databases, enhance complex ETL processes and work on data warehousing for end-user reporting and analytics.  In addition, the Administrator will be responsible for support and administration of the team’s existing database environment, primarily Microsoft SQL Server.  The candidate should have experience in database development and data processing, administration, and performance tuning.  The role will have in office hours with an on-call rotation and occasional weekend maintenance work.  A successful candidate is a motivated self-starter with an aptitude for learning new skills and environments quickly while multi-tasking on more than one deliverable.

Day-to-Day:
  • Support and enhance our existing application database infrastructure, provide administration and operational support of production databases, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Pro-actively tune and optimize existing workloads.
  • Contribute to automation efforts with respect to infrastructure as code and database code deployments.
  • Plan and execute the migration of existing data environments from on-premises to AWS and/or Snowflake.
  • Contribute to project-based work while managing the on-demand workload of pro-active support.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure best practices and adherence to architectural standards.
  • In addition to core database related responsibilities, the engineer will have an opportunity contribute to all aspects of product engineering within the team.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field with 7+ years of experience as a database engineer in financial services or a similar domain.
  • Administration level expertise with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with operational support of production databases.
  • Experience with cloud-based relational or non-relational stores, such as AWS Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB
  • T-SQL programming, performance, and optimization
  • Data replication technologies, configuration and performance in a clustered environment
  • Experience with backup/recovery tasks, user administration, data system installation and configuration
  • Hands-on experience working with software engineering teams on data architecture and database design.
  • Software development or scripting experience (Python, PowerShell, C#, Node.JS, etc.)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as code, preferably HashiCorp Terraform, is a plus
