Manager of Portfolio Management
Cambridge, MA

Essential Functions:
  • Supports the Director to develop and implement portfolio management processes including:
    • Project intake, decision making, and prioritization
    • Development of portfolio structure
    • Portfolio reporting and decision support (Investment, Resource Utilization, Project Status)
    • Escalation channels
    • Project and organization-wide Metrics
  • Supports resource management and utilization decisions to ensure proposed projects are supported with appropriate resources from both a skills and workload perspective.
  • Works with the leadership teams to understand available investment resources that help guide project approval decision making and portfolio positioning.
  • Monitors IT investments and their adherence to established budgets.
  • Supports time tracking functions across the organization.
  • Works with project management team to ensure portfolio management standards are adhered to.
  • Provides portfolio performance information to senior leadership as required, including the definition and measurements of metrics that support decision making.
  • Measures IS&T Service performance and implements improvements.
  • Conducts in-depth root-cause analysis, to identify trends and resolve recurring project/portfolio challenges.
  • Manages portfolio level analysts as appropriate.
  • Meets regularly with team to gather work statuses and consolidate at a portfolio level.
  • Ensures that all team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively.
  • Uses good judgment and creative ideas to improve projects and overall IS&T business.
  • Uses past experiences to identify potential areas of improvement.
Qualifications & Technical Skills:
  • Requires 5 or more years of IT Project Management experience.
  • Requires 2 or more years of IT Portfolio Experience.
  • Requires experience in supervising, building and maintaining relationships with people at a variety of levels.
  • Project Management certification or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum is desired.
  • Technical, hands on management experience in a high-tech environment.
  • Experience in the Higher Education environment is desired but not required
  • Proven skills in managing within a matrix organization.
  • Experience with portfolio management processes and/or tools a plus.
  • Manages improvement processes that impact customer satisfaction and relationships.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
