| Job Purpose: Protects the rights of partners in legally recognized relationships and marriages by counseling and representing clients in pre-nuptial agreements; separation and divorce proceedings; alimony and spousal support, child custody, support and visitation, and fertilized embryo custody. Duties: * Obtains and retains pre-marital clients needing pre-nuptial agreements and clients contemplating separation and/or divorce by following-up on referrals; understanding case information; presenting legal options; maintaining rapport. * Provides pre-nuptial, separation, and divorce legal advice by conducting legal research; keeping clients abreast of document development or case developments; providing explanations of legal concepts and actions. * Develops marital law and legally recognized union cases by supervising paralegals; reviewing investigative findings; consulting with experts; completing discovery process. * Completes premarital agreements by addressing property issues that may arise in the event of divorce or death; protecting awards of property to children from previous marriages or protecting the assets of the spouse bringing substantially greater assets to the marriage. * Completes the legal separation or dissolution of marriage by completing contracts and agreements; settling, mediating, or bringing cases to trial; filing complaints for separation or divorce; planning, investigating, organizing, and presenting arguments and counter-arguments; engaging expert witnesses; preparing and presenting evidence; preparing and interrogating witnesses. * Protects the rights of spouses and children by resolving spousal and child support, child custody and visitation, and property and debt division either by the parties' voluntary agreement, through the assistance of a mediator, or after a court trial. * Protects the rights of future children by resolving custody of fertilized embryos. * Maintains separation and divorce case progress by following and enforcing productivity and quality standards; resolving operational problems; identifying work process improvements. * Maintains marital law cost standards by monitoring expenses; recommending cost-saving opportunities. * Improves marital law quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes. * Updates marital law job knowledge by tracking case law and the development of legal theories; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. * Accomplishes law firm goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
